Entry permalink Dilemma -- Posted by Uncorked

I realized that I have a dilemma when it comes to posting about works in progress on this site. In the future, many of the things I'm working on will be gifts (or potentially gifts), and I don't want to spoil any surprises. Also, I've designed several quilts in EQ with particular people in mind, and I want to share those designs, but not with the people I might eventually make the quilt for.

What to do? One option is simply to wait until I've finished the quilt, given it away, and then write about it. But that requires a lot of patience, which I don't have. Another option is to password-protect certain items and only give the passwords to people who aren't the people I want to temporarily hide it from.

Not sure, not sure. Hmmmmmm. Thoughts?

You could just post about them, and not say who they're for, unless it's obvious from the design who the recipient is. They'd still be surprises, and then you can get the added, "Ohhhhh I saw that on ATQ, and coveted it!!" Password-protecting gets all messy. ;)

I've been thinking about this and maybe I'll just try to be opaque. For example, I could codename them all, and post pictures of fabrics and details, but not finished products or even whole blocks until I've given them away...

As a worst case scenario, you can always write the drafts in MT then post them when the time is ripe. I've been doing that a lot for my super-secret pregnancy/baby site to keep it to one entry a day even if I think of several. (Secret only because it's not pretty enough to share with web savvy friends; it will go public eventually when Mike gets around to fixing up the design).

Entry permalink Paper Piecing -- Posted by Uncorked

I think I understand the concept behind paper piecing now. I read through this tutorial page 2-3 times and it finally started to sink in. Also, a friend of mine sent me some documentation and small starter samples to give me the gist. So, I think I will try to do my next block using paper piecing techniques. Supposedly, it helps with precision and points, areas in which I'm deficient. I hope to do a small one-block quilt this weekend for hubby. Pictures soon if it happens.
