Entry permalink Quilting Corner -- Posted by Uncorked

My quilting corner is coming together slowly. Got a big new table and a new chair and chairmat. Next up: some bins of some sort for storing fabric. And, of course, I must grow the stash!

But... how do you GET there? Climb over the desk?

Heh. Perspective is off in this picture, but there's a pathway just behind the desk that has the towel draped over it. In one iteration my plan was to have to crawl under the big desk, but I decided the novely would probably wear off after, oh, one or two times.

The computer in the picture cracks me up. My Gramma is a quilter, and I keep imagining what she would say if I suggested to her that a computer was a crucial quilting tool....

Not that I'm suggesting it's *not* crucial -- it's just that the convergence of old art + new technology amuses me.

Well, not only do I use it to occasionally browse the web for tips, but I generally have a chat and/or email window open so that I can 'be social' while I'm sewing. Hehe.

However, I have not installed Electric Quilt on that computer yet. I haven't decided yet. Psychologically, I think it helps me to have the design stage occur somewhere other than at the sewing table.

But, of course, this will all evolve over time.

Hmmm... I personally keep all my quilting and computing stuff in roughly the same place, so I never thought about it. I guess if I had to decide, I'd say that it might help to have them both in the same place, especially as your stash evolves. Then you could go through your stash as inspiration for a new design, or to try to match fabric to something you've already designed. But hey, whatever works for you.

Entry permalink B Block -- Posted by Uncorked

Well, my paper piecing experiment failed. I'm not quite sure why, but I suspect it has to do with determining the correct order for the seams. I ended up just putting together the block I was working on by winging it. I wanted to try one of the alphabet blocks, and it's the first one I've done that had pieces of fabric that weren't squares, rectangles, or right triangles. I made a 'B' for fun. I'm going to give it to Hubby when it's done.

I'm going to bind it in dark blue, then it'll be done. I even got mildly adventurous (for me) in the quilting. I made 'X's in the dark blue strips.
Can't really see it in these images, though.
