Entry permalink Medal Design -- Posted by Uncorked

If I can figure out how to paper piece and the middle of this quilt is paper-pieceable, which I believe it is, then this, or something close to it, may end up being the design for the quilt code-named Medal.

I like medallion quilts a lot.

Yep, it's paper-pieceable.

Radiant New York Beauties by Valori Wells deals well with "overlapping" type paper piecing..worth skimming through although not necessary to buy -I happened to be gifted a copy. Looks like a great pattern...

I like this design a lot -- and I'm beginning to understand what you have been saying about medallion quilts.

I may have some more designs kicking around that take advantage of the medallion-style. I'll have to check and see if any are post-worthy. I suspect the more general principle, as I mentioned to you (K) in person the other day is that I'm not crazy about (making) quilts that are all or almost all repetitions of the same block. 'Pines' is the closest of my current projects that is like that, and it's saved by very dramatic fabrics. I haven't started yet, though, so I don't know how bored I'll get with that one.

Great design. The center is definitely and easily paper-piece-able. Look forward to seeing the work in progress!

Entry permalink Substitute Fabric -- Posted by Uncorked

I found a substitute fabric for the one that I mentioned in the previous entry. I'm going to use this light blue bali with silver stars. It actually might turn out better. And, for a backing fabric for this quilt I found a neat Bali with animal silhouettes that pleases me greatly. The fabric's all ordered, as soon as it arrives, I'll be able to start my next (and biggest-thus-far) project.
