Entry permalink Mall Crawl Design -- Posted by Uncorked

Dana's getting ready to start up the June Mall Crawl over at QuiltIndex. I haven't participated in it, in the past, as I hadn't started quilting at the time of the last Mall Crawl. I'm going to try this time, but I've got some travel and don't know if I'll have time. However, I did have some fun making a little contribution of my own. Earlier this year I was messing around in EQ and showed her a design that I call "Egyptian Evening." She thought it might work as a Mall Crawl prize pattern (with some adjustments and subject to some constraints) and here's the end result:

Addendum:
The original version of this quilt that is not being given away as a pattern for the Mall Crawl to eligible recipients is a king-sized version with slightly different blocks. See the comments for more information.

Pretty. I wish I quilted. What is EQ?

EQ is Electric Quilt -- software for designing quilts (www.electricquilt.com).

Lyn, this quilt pattern looks great-I am looking forward to down loading and making this quilt once the Mall Crawl ends...so far, the Crawl is loads of fun..you will find yourself addicted, I am sure :-) Treasure hunts are so much fun.
Hope your travel doesn't take up too much of your fun time-

I love the looks of this quilt, and can hardly wait to get a copy of my own when this is over. Keep up the good work, it's tereific

The pattern is just super. I can hardly wait to get started! Does it come in a kit? The colors that are used on the web are just BEAUTIFUL!!
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for all the feedback. :)

It's not available as a kit -- these are just interesting fabrics I found in EQ when playing around with a design. Originally, I was trying to come up with a design that satisfied two constraints: 1) that my husband might like and 2) that used yellow. I'm not a big fan of yellow -- I tend to get stuck in ruts on colors, so I was trying to stretch myself a little bit. I've posted the original version as an addendum to this post, just for fun.

I LOVE this design and can hardly wait to download it at the en if "The Crawl" Also really like the Christmas pattern. Is it available?

Quilty comment by Jean on 13 June 2003

Hi -- Thanks for the feedback, Jean. No, the Christmas design is not available as a pattern. I do my quilt designs in EQ (ELectric Quilt) and then use the rotary cutting instructions or templates that it provides to make the quilts I make. I have been considering making the EQ project files available (perhaps for a donation to help offset site hosting costs), but I don't know whether there's enough interest to make it worthwhile or not.

I really like this design and expecially the king size version.

So YOU'RE the one who designed that quilt!I grew very fond of it doing the mall crawl and will be making it this fall.I,too, get stuck in colour ruts and will make it in earth tones as you designed.Make sure you get lots of credit for the design-too bad it is not in a kit as your market would be pretty big after the crawl. Thanks for making it available!

Thanks for the feedback! If you do make the quilt, be sure to send a picture to QI and also stop by this site again and let me know. I look forward to seeing pictures of the quilt actually made! I only designed it, I haven't made it yet; I've got about 3 more in front of it, at least.

Hi Andrea. Thanks for the feedback!

There are a couple of online quilting scavenger hunts that I know of -- prizes and free patterns and that sort of thing. The Mall Crawl is one of them and Fab Shop Hop is another.

Found this by accident during Nov Mall Crawl. If you are the designer of the Crawl patterns it would be nice if we had an option at the site to get to this message group, or do we and I have missed it? Still haven't done Junes, but will add to my collection of "someday" projects. I have enjoyed each one so far.

Quilty comment by Ellie Jacobs on 14 November 2003

Ellie: I only designed one quilt for one Mall Crawl -- the one discussed in this post. All of the other Mall Crawl designs have been designed by someone else.

Love this quilt. Is there no way to get a pattern?

Quilty comment by Charlotte on 29 November 2003

Unfortunately not; last time I checked Dana had stopped selling this pattern.

However, if you use Electric Quilt we could probably negotiate a deal where I could give you the project file for this quilt. Alternatively, I might be willing to print and ship the rotary cutting instructions for the individual blocks. I haven't thought about what would be a reasonable price for either of these things, though.
