Entry permalink Medal Fabrics -- Posted by Uncorked

I have all of the fabrics for the top of Medal in hand now. The magenta (that I'd been waiting for) isn't quite as deep as I'd thought, but I think it will still work.

Entry permalink Rose Petal Update -- Posted by Uncorked

I have almost finished the top of Rose Petal. It has three borders, and I've done two of them. If I get really ambitious, I may finish the last one tonight. And then on to the hard task of basting and quilting. I'm thinking of quilting this in a clear thread (nylon?). Does anyone have any suggestions for what the best kind of thread to do this with would be?

By the way, if you've signed up for what I'm calling the Quilty Queue, then you can get a sneak peak of the Rose Petal top with two borders. See this post for more details.

Hm. Well, at the risk of being too opaque... I wouldn't recommend nylon thread for a quilt that will be washed often. Invisible (nylon) thread is best for wall-hangings that will get minimum wear-and-tear, and little movement. The reason for this is that nylon is so much stronger than cotton fiber, and the more it rubs against the cotton, the more it will fray it, hastening deterioration in the quilt.

Can't offer any advice for quilting, since I don't know what the pattern looks like. But I'm with Dana on the thread. This is also the reason why you should try to stick to 100% cotton thread when quilting or even piecing - due to the wear and tear on the fabric.

Yep! I think I have a solution; we'll see how it works.

If you want to see the pattern, Mo, drop me a note and I'll add you to my sneak preview site. I'm going to post the design and pics once the quilt is finished and given away, but until then I want to keep it a surprise for the recipient. :)
