Entry permalink 50-State Quilts -- Posted by Uncorked

This is an old story, but I just read it for the first time. It describes a 50-state quilt project, in which each participant (one from each state) made 50 blocks so that everyone ended up with a quilt made up of 50 blocks from 50 states. Neat!

Each quilter was asked to complete a history form, a document that served two purposes. First, Drummond wanted to be sure that quilters were committed to seeing the project through to the end. She thought that asking them to provide information about themselves, their quilting backgrounds and the squares they planned to create would serve that purpose.

Also, she wanted to gather information for a book she is trying to publish about organizing a 50-state block exchange.
No pictures, unfortunately.

This is about 3 years too late, but have you read about the millenium quilts? I think it sounds like a very cool project.

I live in Tokyo, and there are some Japanese women who are working through a book that has a different quilt block for all fifty states! Different from what you are talking about, but pretty cool.

Oo. The Millennium quilts do seem neat. I like the idea of a quilt with 2000 different fabrics in it.

It makes me think that my stash is still awfully, awfully small. Hehehe.

I am looking for the quilt pattern for the 'Yellow Rose of Texas" and the 'Ohio Rose' I made a yellow rose of Texas once by the Ohio Rose, but I want to make one actually for the 'Yellow Rose of Texas' My son has worn out the first one. he was born in Texas.

Entry permalink Twelve Rows Pattern -- Posted by Uncorked

Keepsake Quilting has a bunch of patterns that I like to browse for inspiration from time to time. I liked this one called Twelve Rows Christmas Pattern. I could imagine doing something similar (although not as complicated) at some point.

I would like to get my group interested in a row or round robin quilt. Any suggestions?

bk- a row robin is much, much easier for folks to do and have come out successfully. If you can agree on a theme, or common fabric to use, they will then become great quilts to show together in a local quilt show. I have done both round and row robins...the hardest part is getting everyone to keep the size uniform. good luck!

Entry permalink Blocks, Blocks, Blocks -- Posted by Uncorked

B pointed me to a site called Quilter's Cache which I think I might have stumbled across before but didn't really explore. Among other things, it has instructions for piecing a whole bunch of quilt blocks. This is useful to me because I tend to just fly by the seat of my pants when piecing blocks (using measurements or templates from EQ) and it's always helpful to see advice on how best to put a block together.

There are tons of neat blocks here, many of which are not in EQ. I may have to buy BlockBase one of these days.
