Entry permalink Quilt Research -- Posted by Uncorked

This is an interesting site: The Quilt Index. The Alliance for American Quilts has put together

an online research and reference tool designed to provide unprecedented access to contextual information and images of quilts held in private and public collections.
The Alliance has a website, too. Fascinating.
Quilts tell stories-they illustrate the history of this country. Quilts express love and sorrow-they link generations together. Quilts are community-people gather to make them and experience them. Quilts are art-these beautiful objects raise our spirits. Quilts teach-they are tools for learning about the world-they've even been used to teach math! Twenty million Americans today are involved in quilt making. Quilts matter!

Because Quilts matter, The Alliance for American Quilts, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization since 1993, brings together quilt makers and designers, the quilt industry, quilt scholars and teachers, and quilt collectors in the cause of documenting, preserving, and sharing our great American quilt heritage. We are committed to collecting the rich stories that historic and contemporary quilts tell about the nation's diverse people and communities.
What a cool new hobby I have stumbled into!

yep, it is a cool hobby and leads to all sorts of new ideas, new friends, and a great artistic outlet that is both visual and tactile. I find it also uses both sides of my brain :-)

Ok, back to quilting...

Yes, definitely a cool hobby that can lead in so many directions. I enjoy looking through the links you post. Just when I think I have found all the quilting links on the Internet....ha ha. I am a quilter in Japan, and I have to say that the Japanese quiltmakers are phenomenal. So much fun to go to shows here. Happy quilting!
