Entry permalink Embroidery Shop -- Posted by Uncorked

I ordered an embroidered pullover from Jackie Morris of BlackLick Bears Embroidery last week. It arrived today and is very cool! Looks like she does custom jobs of all sorts, so have a look if you need some embroidery done. Some of you will be none too surprised to learn that what I ordered is on this page. Heehee.

Wow! There are some really nice items on that site. My favorite so far is the Lovie Bear: http://www.blacklickbears.com/lovies.html

Entry permalink Berries' Blocks -- Posted by Uncorked

The quilt codenamed Berries is in the process of being constructed. Here's a picture of the half finished blocks.

And here's the ultimate design.
The fabrics aren't going together quite as well as I'd hoped, so this may be a case where not seeing them in person first messed me up. (I ordered most of these fabrics online.) Nonetheless, I think the little paw prints in the turquoisy fabric are cute and I'm going to use a novelty fabric for the backing and call the quilt "Whimsy." It'll make a fun, if not elegant, lap quilt.

Entry permalink Jinny Beyer Studios! -- Posted by Uncorked

I finally found my way to Jinny Beyer Studios last weekend. It's about a half an hour from my house in a really pretty part of Virginia. I loved it! It's a complete feast for the eyes! I don't think there was a single fabric collection there that I didn't like. In fact, I could make my next 5 years worth of quilts out of all Jinny Beyer fabrics and not get bored. I bought a kit that makes a quilt out of pieces of all 150 fabrics in her Palette Collection. Very simple -- once it's done I'm going to hang it near my quilting space for inspiration. I also bought a yard or so each of the fabrics below -- going to make one of the upcoming baby quilts out of these.

Her patterns are also incredibly inspiring (and complicated). Some day I'm going to try one, but for now I'll just gaze at them in awe. Since it's really not that far away from me, I'll probably try to go to the studios once every couple of months or so. More frequently than that and I'd end up spending way too much, though! Hee.

ah, the fabric buying habit has really started to make itself felt...I find staying away from the shops is my best way of not buying :-)

Great colors! Your kit sounds great..good luck!

I love Jinny Beyer, too. The thing that really impresses me is that she hand pieces and hand quilts everything she makes. Can't wait to see her new book that is coming out this month.

Yeah, it's amazing that she does everything by hand. Even more intimidating!

They had a few copies of her book in the store and were gearing up for signings. But since the kind of stuff she writes about I'm not even close to be ready to even start thinking about, I'm going to defer.

First time here and very interesting. I love the fabric that you have. Doesn't it make you want to start another project. I'm always thinking ahead of the next three projects. I'd love to visit her studio in Virginia. Will have to look it up and stop on way to Florida.

Wish I could get to that studio!! I bought a whole lot of half yards in a sale a few years ago, but have only just begun to put them together into a "hidden wells" quilt top. There should be enough left over to try a simple strip quilt - probably lap size. Does Jenny really hand sew and hand quilt everything??

The studio is great -- all the fabrics and quilt tops laying around are very inspiring.

Julia -- yes, the people in the store told me that she does do it all by hand. It's astounding.

What's "hidden wells"?

Quilty comment by ATQ on 6 January 2004

Hidden Wells is a very fun, very fast strip-piecing pattern by Mary Ellen Hopkins. Basically, you sew a bunch of strip sets, cut them into squares, cut the squares into triangles then sew the triangles into blocks. The thing is, due to the cutting & rearranging, you really don't know how the quilt is going to turn out until it's done. :)

Where can I get Jinny Beyer Fabrics, especially border prints? I have been struggling gettting this information, so far no luck.

www.jinnybeyer.com is where I would look first.

Hi! I just found this page during a Yahoo search. I'm the founder of Jinny's online fan club, and would like to invite you all to join us at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jinnybeyerfans/
Jinny herself belongs, and is great about answering all our questions. We have several international members, and some guys too! Love to have you!
