Entry permalink Link Exchanges -- Posted by Uncorked

Occasionally I get emails from people at quilt or fabric shops asking for a "link exchange." My policy is that I do not do "link exchanges." Let me elaborate...

I've been on the web a long, long time and have been keeping websites and weblogs of various sorts since the mid-1990s. Here's my rule of thumb: if I like a site, I might link to it. If you like my site, you should link to it. But, links don't have to be reciprocal. That said, if you link to this site, it's likely that I'll notice. I'm always inclined to think favorably of sites that link to me. If I think favorably of a site, I might link to it! That's how it works.

Short version: A good way to get me to link to you is to link to me. Even better: link to me and make comments on this site that are relevant to the things I'm posting about (not simply advertisements). I'm even more likely to notice you then. But emailing and asking for a link without showing that you're interested in my site as anything more than simply a redirect to your own won't cut it.

Links are the currency of the web; links from me aren't that expensive, but they're not that cheap, either.

this site is cool! I am interested in hand quilting and aplique as well as double knit "Iorn quilts" to serve my Mom's requirements she's a cross country trucker! Don't have a link yet... quilt on!

Entry permalink Progress Report -- Posted by Uncorked

I finished the quilt codenamed Pines today. Pictures and details of the design will come soon. It's a nice blanket, now! I won't be keeping this one, but I'm going to have make a quilt that I keep for myself soon, because I never want to give them away.

I also learned how to make envelope pillow cases. I used these instructions. It was super easy -- they're made out of a single piece of fabric. Pictures of those later, too!

I never want to give anything I make away! And yet I make very few things for myself. Go figure.
