Entry permalink Two Tops -- Posted by Uncorked

I finished the quilt top of Berries yesterday, so that means I now have two finished quilt tops (Berries and Medal) waiting for backings, basting, quilting, and binding. Berries has four(!) borders, which took a little time, but I think the borders really make the quilt for this one. Pictures of that and the envelope pillows later..

Happy Dancing for you...two tops finished is excellent..I think the design for Bears worked great in those colors-can't wait to see the pictures of Berries.

Entry permalink Snowy Bear -- Posted by Uncorked

The quilt named "Snowy Bear" codenamed "Pines" is finished. Here are a couple of pictures. (It's about 5.5ft by 5.5ft -- a decent-sized lapquilt.)

. The design I worked from is below:
The original design had some sashing (below), which is what I had hoped to do and where the codename came from. However, I couldn't find that fabric or anything close enough, so I decided to go with a simpler, but more dramatic, design in the end.
I really do love the blue fabric with silver snowflakes and will probably find excuses to use that one again and again. The backing fabric on this is a variation of the fabric I used to back RLJA.

hi! i am blown away -- the BACK of your quilt? i have that same fabric! in an indigo w/ a lighter indigo as the animal shapes. and i'm using it on the front of a bear paw quilt as well! it'll be the background and the big squares and i'm using a red flannel that has stars/snowflakes all over it as the bear paws!!! very weird coincidence and this is first time i've seen your blog, just wandered over from moving hands!!! :) this turned out great - congratulations

Thanks!

I think I used the indigo-ish fabric you're talking about as the backing for another quilt - you can see that quilt by clicking here. Scroll down to see a picture of the backing. There's another picture of the back of it here.

Do you mix flannel and regular cotton quilting fabric? Does that work? I've thought it might be interesting sometimes, but I've also been warned against it. Any thoughts?

Not that I've ever done this, but I can't see how it would matter if you mix flannel and regular cottons, as long as everything was pre-washed in the warmest possible water.

The only problem I can imagine would be if you had lots of edges on the bias. The two types of fabrics might stretch differently (I'm just speculating here -- I don't know this for a fact). But if everything were cut with the grain, even that wouldn't be an issue.
