I finished the first Baby Steps quilt tonight. I had a lot of trouble with the quilting and the binding. I can't seem to keep the fabric taut and flat when I'm quilting, so it ends up a little wrinkly and puffy. And I don't know what happened with the binding on this first one, but one section of it was pretty bad, so I tried to redo just that piece and it ended up looking worse. Argh. Oh well. It's for a baby; the baby won't mind.

I did not use the walking foot while quilting these because no matter what I do, the needle constantly falls out when I use the walking foot on my sewing machine and never falls out when I use the regular foot. That might have been part of the quilting problem, but I also think I'm doing something wrong and probably won't be able to straighten it out without lessons or something. Oh well -- I don't make quilts for contests, I make them to be used, and even if they're poorly-quilted, they're still functional (and pretty from a distance!)

Oh, I also finished block 10 (of 12 + setting) of Jo Threads tonight. Chugga, chugga!

Do you have a zipper foot? I'm not sure if I have a walking foot (I have a lot of unindentified attachments), so I use my zipper foot with the feed dogs covered (using the cover from my button-holer). It seems to work pretty well.

Of course, I'd like to try the walking foot someday, I just need to sit down and try to figure out what all my attachments actually do.

I'm not sure if I have a zipper foot. I don't know what many of my attachments are supposed to do either, and I've never been able to get my quarter-inch foot to work with this machine. Needle goes down, machine buzzes, everything stops -- everytime I put it on. It's very strange.
