I haven't been much in the mood for sewing lately -- I'm not sure why, I just think I needed a little break. But that doesn't mean I haven't been working on my brother's quilt.

I've decided that the quilt was really too large for a wall-hanging, so I re-designed the border to make it smaller. I cut it from 8-inches to 4-inches, which will make the finished size of the quilt 44x44 instead of 52x52.

There will be 3 borders and the binding (which I'm thinking of as both the 4th border). All three will be pieced of 1x2 inch blue rectangles. The first will be light-to-medium blues, the second mediums, the third medium-to-dark and the 4th/binding will be the darkest navy blues I have. In the picture below, you can see the sketch I used to work out the rectangle sizes and all the blue fabrics I'll be using in the borders. I'm really looking forward to working on this part of the project.

I've spent a little bit of time this week working on the setting for Jo Threads -- long-time readers will recall that that's my codename for this kit from Joann's. It's going alright, but I'm convinced the setting kit is missing one piece (so far) and if I can't find it, it's going to slow me down while I order some replacement fabric. I haven't given up yet, because there was that one time I thought I lost one of the Bear Paws from "Snowy Bear" but it eventually turned up.

Uhoh. Looks like Joann's doesn't have any more matching fabric. This could be a problem if that piece doesn't turn up....

I wonder if you could call a few local JoAnn's and ask if they have it? A b&m store might have some left, even if the online store is out.
