Entry permalink Progress Report -- Posted by Uncorked

I've been working very sporadically on the setting kit for Jo Threads. I'm just about finished piecing a checkerboard internal border. I mixed up their suggested layout of the squares, but decided that I don't care. Once that's on, then I need to do the internal red border, and thanks to Carrie I will have the fabric I need for that.

I haven't gotten back to the bargello placemats in a few weeks because 1) I think I want to finish the Jo Threads top and set that aside and 2) I'm at a stage in the bargello that requires techniques I've never tried before and I haven't had the time to set aside and think about it yet. Soon though.

The way this year is going, I fear that my quilting ambitions might not be realized. I had hoped to be much further along. Oh well. There's always '05!

Entry permalink Commission -- Posted by Uncorked

A friend of mine wants to commission a lap quilt from me for a friend of hers' birthday in November. I gave her a couple of designs to choose from and (lucky for me) she chose the simplest one -- a nice straightforward log cabin. Here's a schematic from EQ of what we're going to do. (With 95% certainty.)

Just need to choose some fabrics -- and that portable palette from Jinny Beyer is coming in very handy! I'm going to ask her to pay for the cost of the materials plus some extra. The challenge is figuring out what the labor costs should be, since I'm still a novice I can't charge a lot. But, it's a fair bit of time, too. We'll see.

I love the variety of design you can get with log cabin-this layout looks dramatic. So? What colors are you going to use?

Reds/yellows/golds, as in the picture. Not as orange-y as this picture suggests, though. I think it will be neat. (And hopefully very fast!)

Look at you go! Only one year of quilting, and already selling your work.

That is a cool design - doesn't look simple to my untrained eyes at all!

Oo very nice. I would love to get to the point where some one would want to buy a quilt I designed and made. But for now I'm too busy giving htem away. I husband keeps lamenting that we haven't kept a single quilt I've made. He doesn't mind quilting as a hobby but he wished we had something to show for it. ;> I finally decided to make hime a quilt tht he could keep, but it keeps gtting put on the back burner for more gift quilts. I liek to think that I'm just perfecting my skills till I get to his very special quilt. :>

Uhoh, nap time is over gotta go collect a baby. Hope to comeback soon.

Thanks -- I haven't made a quilt for us yet, either. And there are several more that I want to make for other people that could keep me occupied all the way until 2010. Sigh.
