I meant to do a few pictures this weekend of the status of the bargello placemats and the Jo Threads kit quilt. Didn't get around to it, so I'll just do a wordy update instead.

The bargello looks pretty cool, but I'm having all sorts of trouble. I'm quilting in place; that is, rather than piecing a top together, I'm sewing the strips directly onto batting and backing. Not sure if I like this. And, my lack of a quarter-inch foot that works with my machine is really hurting. Lots of problems due to 3/8 inch seams. I'm not, being the sloppy sewer that I am, bothering to correct these, but it is a bit disappointing. Also, I don't seem to be able to sew the strips together straight. They all veer off a bit towards the bottom. I still think I'll get interesting placemats out of this, though.

I ran into another serious problem with the Jo Threads kit. Two of the side pieces (middle border) are about 3 inches shorter than they should be. I have one possible fix that I haven't looked into closely yet. More on that later.
