Two Relationship Movies
I watched two relationship movies this past weekend. First, I watched "Trust the Man" which was sitting on my shelf from Netflix. It's got David Duchovny, Julianne Moore, Maggie Gyllenhaal, among others, in it. I liked it. Some of the reviews I read criticized it for being about self-indulgent New Yorkers and a weak Woody Allen imitation. But whatever, I'm a fan of those 3 actors and found the relationships depicted mostly plausible and interesting. The ending was annoying, but up until that point, I was intrigued by the dynamics portrayed. And, it turns out, that Duchovny and the director kept a weblog about it for awhile. Neat. Then, TheGuy and I went out to see "Knocked Up" which is getting very good reviews. Read Kevin's review for details. I thought this was pretty good, too. Quite funny, some very realistic relationship moments - although most of the men were rather revolting (guys, if you really behave like these oafs when left to your own devices, please don't tell me, I don't want to know), and not too stupidly sappy or cutesy.
I didn't assess either in terms of social commentary and WHAT THEY SAY about the state of gender relations today (sigh), although there's probably much fodder there -- I'm just not in the mood and don't have the energy. So, I recommend them if there's not too much drama going on in your own relationships or in those of people you're close to -- then they can each be just be an entertaining peek into the drama of fictionalized others.

Crackberry Central
As of this past Saturday I am the proud and newly-obsessed owner of my very own Blackberry.Verizon. 8830. Pretty. Shiny! Internet in my pocket!
Anyone want to share their Blackberry PIN with moi?
As usual, I have loads more to say, but no time to type up impressions at the moment..
I'm never, ever going back, though. How can anyone live without the Internet in their pocket?? Heh.
And it hasn't helped me catch up on my email at all -- ye olde inbox is now at about 800.. and climbing... Sigh. Fortunately, the crackberry doesn't know about that, so it makes me feel all caught up when I look at it. Bwahaha.

Neglectful Blogger
I know I'm neglecting this site lately. I'm neglecting my quilting site, too, even though I have news to post over there. Sigh. It's mostly due to trying to keep from making my hands and arms ache. I talked to my doctor and she thinks it's nothing more than 'overuse.' As I told my boss: It's just that I work too hard, y'see...So, I'm trying to be responsible. And, besides, we've had some gorgeous weather lately. Yes, Northern Virginia only had 1/3 of an inch of rain in all of the month of May. And that's bad. But hey, it makes it nice to sit out in the yard. The other evening, I poured a glass of wine, sat outside, watched the bumblebees in my lavender, and yakked on the phone for an hour. How often do I do that?
Last night we hung out for a little bit with TheNamesake and TheThirdNiece (? - gah, I really need to come up with a webname for that one). Anyway, it was fun. We grilled some chicken and it wasn't too dry. Mm.. grilling. Yum. I have pictures. If I ever get around to ever processing any of my photos again, I'll post them sometime.
Here are a few things, other than work and the usual political and policy catastrophes that I've been paying a bit of attention to lately:
- New windows - we're having new windows installed in our house this summer. Apart from forking over gobs of money, this also involves a bit of tussling with our HOA. But it will be fine, and, I must say, window engineering has come a long way.
- Baseball - The Nationals are doing alright. Everyone in the Natosphere is abuzz about the new stadium (more specifically, seat pricing at the new stadium, which was just announced.)
- My sluggish, sluggish transition to my new PC. I just can't seem to muster up the energy to sit down and finish this project. Not to mention that doing so will demand a lot of keyboard and mouse work.
- Vacation - we're trying to figure out where we want to go this year to get a few days away.
- Blackberry - I'll be getting my first Blackberry later this month. I hope it doesn't take over my life! On the other hand, I'll be able to work while at the ballpark, and none will be the wiser! ;-) Hehe.
- Quilting - I have two major projects to get started on; one is completely designed and the fabric is in hand; the other is not at all designed, although I've been noodling over some ideas.
- Book purge - yes, yes, I know I've been talking about this for years. But stuff is happening.. really.

I was kinda surprised to see your "thumbs up" for Knocked Up in your sidebar the other day. Obviously, this is a reflection of my reading list, but most of the reviews I'm seeing peg it as thinly veiled anti-choice propaganda. More mainstream media say it's a funny movie, but I don't think I could disconnect my brain enough to enjoy that particular movie. Le sigh...
